Check out these answers to common questions about the Texas REALTORS® Mentorship Program.
Why isn’t the program longer? Three months isn’t enough.
Committing either party to a longer relationship could be counterproductive. Also, most mentees need help with focusing their goals; therefore, a limited time with a deadline is best. Lastly, mentors and mentees are free to continue their relationship as they choose.
I want to know more about my mentee before I start. Why can’t I ask around about the mentee?
It’s important to get to know your mentee on a personal level. The best way to do that is without any preconceived notions about the other person.
What’s the next step after I finish three months as a mentee?
Think about what you have to offer as a mentor, and if you’re interested, volunteer. Also, consider participating in the Texas REALTORS® Leadership Program, NAR’s L.E.A.D.S. courses, or other leadership development opportunities.
Can I do the program as a mentee more than once with a different mentor?
Yes. You may apply to be a mentee as many times as you like, but a second or third mentor might not have anything new to offer. It may be best to focus on the goals and plan you have developed thus far. However, if you have succeeded in your goals and are ready to move to the next level of leadership (Texas REALTORS® or NAR), it may be appropriate to match up with a new mentor with the next level of knowledge. Please keep in mind that mentors are limited, and mentees who have not previously completed the program will have priority.
I need my mentor to help with my business. Can he do that?
No. This program is specifically for leadership development with the associations of REALTORS®. Mentors are not vetted for business acumen or real estate knowledge. Real estate questions should always be directed to your broker or office manager. If you need a business coach, your broker or office manager may be able to suggest a coach for you.
